Today was a project day. It was your last day to work on these in class. They are due on Friday! Tomorrow you will have your Interim Assessment. These can be finished on Friday during ELA.
The past few days have been spent wrapping up out literature circles for The Red Pencil and working on projects. These projects are due on Friday 11/2. You will also have tomorrow (Wednesday) to work on these. Tuesday was a nice break because we watched Rudy, another excellent example of resiliency. It's nice to have these shared experiences so that we can reference them during our discussions.
Today was a normal literature circle day. We discussed Amira's life in Kalma up to this point. Tomorrow is our last meeting, so we all know some things will be resolved! After that you worked and watched the news. Our work time was much more focused today. This was a solid improvement. Your job is to finish the book tonight. It flew by! I can't wait to discuss the ending with you all.
Today didn't work out quite as we had planned because Ms. Veach had to unexpectedly leave. Our ELA class started with your library test. You worked independently through the agenda after finishing your test. Before notes, I was hoping to have you finish your close read about Zuriel and the PEEL+ about her story. We reviewed the rubric so that you could evaluate yourself (before I give you a grade). You took the last part of the notes about PEEL+ and then many of you had a little bit of free time. Both classes did a nice job working through the agenda. We are going to continue working on transitions, though. When these take so long, it wastes time! That will be my challenge to you as the week goes on.
Today was a lesson day. Originally we were scheduled to meet in literature circles, but we did some switches today to make up the lesson days we missed when I was out sick. We discussed PEEL+ and compared the differences between that strategy and SIDD. After notes, you read an article about a young woman named Zuriel. You were told to close read this and, when you finished that, complete the PEEL+ graphic organizer. Not many people finished, but this will be your Do Now tomorrow.
Today was another normal literature circle day. We started with the creative writing from Thursday. (FYI - Tomorrow will be the last day to work on this.) After I checked close reading, we updated our calendar. See below or the homework tab for more information. We met for meeting 8. Can you believe we only have 2 more meetings?! Both classes struggled to make the most of their time during the work period. This needs to be improved upon. Tomorrow is a lesson day and we will discuss PEEL+.
Changes to the Calendar: Monday 10/22 - Meeting 8/Work for Meeting 9 Tuesday 10/23 - Lesson: PEEL+ Wednesday 10/24 - Lesson: PEEL+/Library Split Thursday 10/25 - Meeting 9/Work for Meeting 10 Friday 10/26 - Meeting 10/Work on Final Projects Today was a normal literature circle day. You came in and had a few minutes to work on the story's that you started yesterday while I checked close reading. We split into groups for meeting 7. After our discussion, you had some times for prepare for meeting 8. We will meet on Monday. I will have an updated schedule for next week so that we can include the PEEL+ lesson that was missed when I was sick. Enjoy your weekend!
We had a shortened class today because of the half day. Both 7th grade classes has awesome transitions into my room and started their work immediately. Nice job! We did some creative writing inspired by (weird) pictures. Some of you finished, but many of you still wanted more time. This will be your "Do Now" until these are all finished.
Today you participated in a lesson developed by Ms. Carella, a student from Medaille. You began by reviewing what an inference is. Nice job remembering this information! Then, you split up into your Hogwarts houses to rotate through 4 station. These included a quote by Martin Luther King, Jr., Tupac's The Rose that Grew from Concrete, the lyrics to Fireworks by Katy Perry, and the trailer for Wonder. For each station, you interpreted the text's meaning and connected it to Amira's story.
Today was a lesson day. We focused on making inferences. You started by watching a Flocabulary video focused on inferencing. It seemed like both groups really liked it! We did a little practice on the SmartBoard and then jumped right into our video activity. We watched Defective Detective, pausing pretty frequently to make inferences. After watching it all the way through once, we checked our answers. This is always a fun activity. I hope you enjoyed it!
